   Grace R. Schuller, 90, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025 at her home in Outing, Minnesota.

   Grace was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on December 31, 1934 to Leroy and Hattie (Springer) Mattson.  She grew up in many places around the country, as her father moved to various construction sites, eventually returning to Minneapolis to settle down.  Grace attended Nokomis Junior High where she met her husband of 72 years, Jack, at a nearby ice rink on Minnehaha Creek.  Grace graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952.  She married John “Jack” Schuller on May 8, 1953, living in Ulm, Germany and Rapid City, South Dakota where Jack was stationed with the U.S. Air Force, until eventually settling in Brooklyn Park in 1957.  There they raised their son David while Grace worked as a receptionist at Land-O-Nod Mattress Co., Polaris Industries and a bookkeeper at Lutheran Bible Institute/Golden Valley Lutheran College, along with Mount Carmel Ministries.  Jack and Grace retired to Outing, Minnesota in the house they built together on Washburn Lake where Grace enjoyed gardening, boating and relaxing by and in the lake, and playing with her grandsons when they visited.  She also kept busy for several years as Our Savior’s Lutheran Church secretary.  Grace’s final days were spent in front of their picture window overlooking the lake.

   Grateful for having shared her life are her husband John “Jack”; her son David (Debbie); grandsons, Erik and Peder; sisters, Susan (Leighton) Quinn and Mary Anne Portz.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Hattie Mattson and brother-in-law Howard Portz.

   A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Outing.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at a later date.  If desired memorials can be given the Ours Saviors Lutheran, Outing, MN. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
