  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

April 23, 1925

   About 40 cases of flu are reported in and around Longville.  The teachers here are taking turns in having the flu.

   Mr. and Mrs. Frank Simpson took their son Forest to the doctor at Remer with blood poisoning in his hand. Mrs. Simpson had blood poisoning in her hand last week.

   Mr. and Mrs. Jake Whitted and children, Mr. and Mrs. Dickson of Boy River drove down to Wabedo for the barn dance.

75 Years Ago

April 21, 1950

   George Wind, 20 and Rose Marie White, 17, of Federal Dam applied for a marriage license.

   Due to road conditions in Blind Lake, the only mode of transportation is by tractor. Vernon Erickson traveled to Backus and Pine River Saturday. Howard Sawyer went to town Monday by tractor.

   The Soo Line finally increased their force to four with two local men added to the force.

50 Years Ago

April 24, 1975

   Mrs. Durwood King is staying with Mrs. Mabel Mulray at her home on Wabedo lake.

   Mrs. Edna Godfrey officiated at the marriage on April 12th of Mark Hilling and Zoe Ann Cole at the Boy River Chapel.

   The Remer Golden Age Club is in the process of organizing a Telecare Program for the Remer area for people who want the reassurance of a daily phone call.

 25 Years Ago

April 25, 2000 

   Bob and Diane Ammerman will open the Main Street Café across from Remer Liquors, and Jerry and Roberta Pepin have a new coffee shop, gift shop, tanning salon, the Red Plaid Village under construction just east of the Remer Car Wash and Laundromat.

   Dollian “Dolly”  Kottmeyer, 59, was born on Bear Island, She was a retired LPN, a member of the Pillager Band, Leech Lake Reservation, Chippewa Tribe. She died April 10th and is buried at Battle Point cemetery.

   Jerry King, 64, was born to Durward and Rachel (Probasco) King. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea. He married Grace. A member of the 15,000 Club of Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, sponsored students to attend Holiness Bible School in Arkansas, He died April 18 and is buried in the Wabedo cemetery.
