Dennis Madden Jr., 61, of Federal Dam, MN, passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2024, at the Sanford Bemidji Hospital. Born on October 31, 1962, in Grand Rapids, MN, Dennis was the eldest son of Dennis and Anita Madden. Dennis was known by many names; Dad, Grandpa, Junior, June Bug, or J.R.. Junior grew up in Grand Rapids and after graduating was united in marriage to Tina Madden and they had three children together. Throughout his lifespan he was blessed with five children, who came to be the best parts of him.
An independently spirited man and a skilled tradesman, Junior held a variety of jobs from working at Infratech, to various construction jobs out of state, to owning his own construction business. He also became a well-known face to many helping at the family business, The Dutchroom.
Ultimately, he discovered his passion for the natural world as a fishing guide, a role he embraced wholeheartedly, spending countless hours on the water at Leech Lake, a place he holds dear from childhood where he lived his best days. He was a true outdoorsman, passing on his love for all things nature to his children and grandchildren.
Junior spent his later life living in Federal Dam with his best friend and life partner Sara Akre. They spent innumerous time together sharing their love of the outdoors, fishing, and the company of each other and their two dogs Midnight Rose and Sadie. It was at this time in his life he found true happiness.
Dennis is survived by his loving girlfriend Sarah Akre and her family, daughters: Christina Malcolm and Steffany Akre; Dennis’ daughters: Brandi (Gabe) Miskovich, Breann Madden, and Halle (Alex) Madden; sons: Derek (Hannah) Madden and Trenton (Mary) Erlenbush; grandchildren: Joseph and Alexander Miskovich; Owen and Ari Hynek; Tia and Finn Madden; Wade, Charlotte, Drake, and Trey Erlenbush; Kyleigh Stram and Jamisyn Malcolm; and Carter Swanson; his mother Anita Madden; sisters: Gail (Alan) Gustafson and Lisa (Phil) Johnson; brother: James (Harmony) Madden; numerous aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceeded in death by his loving father, late Dennis Madden Senior and his longtime best friends, Princess and Buddy (dogs).
A visitation to honor Dennis’s memory will be held at Rowe Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 510 NW 1st Ave, Grand Rapids, MN 55744, on Thursday, September 19th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at Leech Lake Recreation Area, 1217 Federal Dam Drive NE, Federal Dam, MN, 56641, on Saturday, September 21st from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In his departure, Dennis leaves behind a legacy of a carefree spirit, a big heart, and enthusiasm for the outdoors. He lived his life to the fullest with no regrets. May his soul find peace, and may his memory live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
