Harvest Celebration at Harvest Moon Sat., Sept 14

Fall is in the air, the garden harvest and abundance is worth pausing to celebrate in community! Join Balsam Moon Preserve on Saturday, September 14, 2-7 p.m. for fun and celebration in their first annual Harvest Celebration!

Activities will run from 2-5 p.m., 4:30-6 p.m. will feature music of The Devil Dodger, Matthew Weiss of Minneapolis, and the evening meal at 6 p.m. will feature potluck family style meal. Bring a dish from your garden harvest to share and join in the celebration. Sit-down meal begins by 6 p.m.

Activities include: threshing demo of oats and dry beans in a homemade thresher powered by an exercise bike; hand milling of acorns into flour and making biscuits in the wood-fired barrel oven; making wild rice dinner rolls baked in the outdoor oven; kids’ activities with croquet and a scavenger hunt to collectively create an outdoor fall display; cider pressing for the meal; axe and knife sharpening demo; self-guided tour; and a seed sharing station where you can bring your saved seeds to share with others and take some home from the abundance shared by others. A variety of quilts will be on display, the gardens are in full bloom with dahlias, cosmos, rudbeckia, zinnias, morning glories and more, and the trails are great for walking. Participants may come for any portion of the afternoon and/or meal.

The Devil Dodger specializes in American roots music, which draws on a range of themes from lost love, heartache, jail and going to his grandfather’s farm as a child. Sit around the campfire, help set the tables and hang out while he performs 4:30-6 p.m. leading up to the potluck celebration meal as a culmination of the harvest with gratitude. Dress for the weather. If raining we’ll dine inside.
