Fitness Center Owner Katie Daudt Presentation on Strength Training for Seniors

Katie Daudt, Longville fitness center owner, will do a presentation on how resistance training and exercise benefit older men and women at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m.   Meet and greet with refreshments is at 6 p.m.

Titled “Make the Most of Every Day: The Benefits of Exercise for Seniors”, Katie’s presentation will include discussion and demonstrations of various body weight and weight-bearing exercises that strengthen muscles and the effect they have on osteoporosis.  Katie will emphasize the benefits of strength training and exercise on mental health, including decreasing stress, anxiety and depression, enhancing sleep, decreasing fall risk, independence and overall physical health. At the conclusion of the presentation, Katie will invite attendees to tour her fitness center Empowered Fitness in Longville just a short distance from Salem.

Katie is a 16 years resident of Longville who grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota and has great memories of visiting her grandparents who lived in the Longville area.  She is a 1994 graduate of Moorhead State University with majors in criminal justice and sociology and a minor in anthropology.  After her undergraduate education, Katie attended the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul and graduated with a JD degree in 2001.  She obtained a clerkship in family and criminal law with a Hennepin County Judge and then joined a family law firm in Bloomington.

Katie met her husband Matt in Longville while she was working at a local restaurant during summer break from college.  They were married in 1995 and have two sets of twin sons and a daughter.  They have four grandchildren.

Katie left the law firm to raise her family.  As the children grew older and got more involved in sports, she started running with them and focusing on exercise.  She noticed, too, that people she cared about were having health problems including mobility and balance issues.  As she learned more about fitness and its benefits, Katie realized how difficult it was for older men and women to find safe and convenient places to exercise.  So she decided to build and open a fitness center in Longville in 2016.

In designing the center, Katie focused on making it a safe and friendly place that welcomed people of all ages.  She went on to earn her personal training certificate and then completed leader training in 2018 for the United States Administration on Aging approved Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program.

Katie loves being a fitness center owner and enjoys helping the clients achieve their goals at the center.  She expects to continue helping people, especially seniors, to live active and independent lives in the years ahead.

Salem Lutheran Church is located at 1340 County Road 5 in Longville.  Katie Daudt’s presentation is free and open to men and women in the community and is sponsored by Salem’s men’s fellowship ministry.
