  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

Sept. 4, 1924

   Mrs. Eva Flying Earth is the new nurse at the Onigum General Hospital.

   Robert Blakely and Edward Johnson spent Sunday picking cranberries as a vacation from their duties as government employees.

   Lawrence Shepard bought a Ford truck Saturday while in Pine River.

75 Years Ago

Sept. 2, 1949

   Sunday morning Floyd DeGarmo shot a large black bear near his home near Longville.

   Mr. and Mrs. McFee who lived in Longville years ago are spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Connell on Big Boy Lake.

   Max Morrow, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Morrow of Sugar Point, fell 30 ft. out of a tree and was taken to Cass Lake with internal injuries.

50 Years Ago

Sept. 5, 1974

   Mrs. I. Monroe has moved into her new cabin located in Onigum near “Baba’s” old place.

   A group of guests from Austin’s Campground had a coffee party for Dodo and uncle on Sunday.

 25 Years Ago

Sept. 7, 1999 

   Edna Berger, 89, of died August 28th. She married Robert Mather in 1929 and had 2 daughters. In the early 1940s, she moved to Brevik where she operated a general store and was assistant postmaster. She married Edwin Berger in 1946 and had sons John and Hal.

   Wabedo Inn’s 6th Annual Octoberfest will take place September 10 and 11. See you in the “Big Tent”.
