  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

June 5, 1924

  Richard Day and John Bellanger are working to move the old Fisher house which will become a wing of the new hospital.

   The Longville Creamery received cream on Monday and Friday and over 500 pounds of butter were made.

   Wedian Olson of Kego recently sold his team to Mr. Hovde.

75 Years Ago

June 3, 1949

   Mr. and Mrs. Orville Johnson have moved to their new home on Girl Lake, Longville.

   Mr. Al Cernia, the new school superintendent for next year at Longville, spent several days here.

   The excavating has begun for the building of a new home for Mr. and Mrs. Byron Harder.

50 Years Ago

June 6, 1974

   Mr. and Mrs. Tim Bailey of Swatara have purchased the Herman Thiebault place east of Remer.

   The Leech Lake Riders snowmobile club will sponsor a dance, with music by the Rambalons at the American Legion Club in Walker.

   Mr. and Mrs. Homberg and Mr. and Mrs. Wiener from Iowa are spending time at the cabin on Blind Lake.

 25 Years Ago

June 8, 1999 

   Long Lake near Longville measured nearly 1½ feet above last year’s reading. It was the highest recorded measurement since the DNR started keeping records in 1971.

   Cooper Steven Kovall, 8 lbs. 10 oz., was born April 1st to Steve and Jenny Kovall of Remer.

   Heidi Mouw of Longville graduated May 21st from Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
