Women of Today present scholarships
The Longville Area Women of Today are delighted to announce the 2024 recipients of their $1,000 scholarships. This esteemed award is bestowed upon two exceptional students, Maria Swankier and McKinna McKinney, who have excelled academically and made significant contributions to our community. “We are proud to support Maria and McKinna in their educational journeys,” said Lolene Jones, President of the LAWOT.

Maria, a student with unwavering dedication and passion, will be joining Bemidji State University this fall. She has set her sights on the university’s esteemed nursing program, aiming to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Maria’s long-term vision includes working as a Traveling Nurse, hoping to make a significant difference in children’s health across various communities. “Maria’s commitment to a career in pediatric nursing and her dedication to serving others truly reflect the values of our organization,” stated Lolene Jones.
McKinna is preparing to embark on her educational journey at the College of Saint Scholastica this fall, where she will pursue an elementary education degree with a minor in special education. She will have earned her Associate of Arts degree upon graduating in May. McKinna’s long-term plan is to return to our community and complete her master’s degree through online classes, thereby further enriching the educational landscape of Longville. “We are thrilled to be a part of McKinna’s educational journey,” said Lolene. “Her dedication to education and her desire to give back to our community perfectly align with the mission of our organization.”
