Congratulations to Leech Lake Band member Danica Heinle who received her acceptance letter to the Youth Indian Police Academy located in Oklahoma. The U.S. Department of Interior’s BIA and BIE host this community policing venture focused on providing encouragement, hope, inspiration and mentorship to Native American youth. This academy is designed for highly motivated 9th-12th grade students. Selected applicants will have an opportunity to experience a multitude of police and first responder professions that introduce them to specialized skills unique to each profession. Danica is a student at Northland Community Schools and is one of twenty eight students in the nation selected to this program. Photo submitted.
