Lakes Area Habitat Needs Construction Volunteers!
Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity is in need of volunteers in Walker and Leech Lake tribal areas. As we expand service into that area, and complete homes in the Cass Lake area, volunteers are needed and they will not have a long commute. If you want a rewarding volunteer experience, many of our volunteers say that they receive more by volunteering than they feel they give…and that there is so much to learn!
Construction
Get hands-on experience with Habitat! You’re never alone building with us; a professional staff member is always on site to teach new skills or put your expertise to best use. Construction volunteers perform a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks including framing, vinyl siding, painting, flooring, and installing trim. We work alongside each future homeowner, so you will see and know the lives you are changing firsthand.
Opportunities change day-to-day, occur indoors and outdoors, and are typically four-hour shifts (morning or afternoon, or all day if desired). Participating in build projects is an excellent opportunity for church and youth groups, local businesses looking for staff service time or volunteer time-off opportunities, individuals in need of volunteer or community service hours, or anyone with a desire to get involved with our community.
We are currently building 4 homes in the City of Cass Lake, with 4 more to come in the next year or two.
We tear apart, too! Salvage volunteers go to a site and save reusable, quality materials from demolition. We tear out: doors, windows, flooring, lighting, trim, kitchen cabinets, and more. All these items stock our ReStore, which is open to the public and sells merchandise discounted up to 75% off standard retail prices. All net proceeds support our mission to build affordable homes.
With our new ReStore, we are looking to expand our salvage area to include more of the central and northern parts of Hubbard and Cass county. With salvage volunteers commuting from Brainerd/Baxter, it makes for long days.
We seek to recruit a pool of what will be on-call salvage volunteers, to be available when salvages in that area come up. This will not be a daily occurrence, but weekly or bi-weekly. If you want to help a worthy cause, keep usable goods out of our landfills, and have a fun day of deconstruction, please consider joining our on-call list.
Plenty of volunteers like to try all the different areas of volunteering.
