An A+ Day

Resort race winner

Manolo Patino from Elgin, IL captured the win this week representing Diamond Crest Resort. Photos submitted.

I would give us an A+ today! Everything felt good. We had just a beautiful day...cool, light breeze and lots of sunshine! A perfect day to come to town for the Turtle races...and they did! The big parking lot was full to overflowing and the streets were filled with families. Build it and they will come...as they say. And our crew of volunteers was so happy to play host to the crowds!

Turtle race champion

This week’s Grand Winner was 27 year-old Katarina Bain from Pine Island.

Let’s look around Main Street to see what makes for an A+ Day! Sue was stationed at the registration booth...she came out of retirement to help us today!  Sande, now a 3 year veteran at this post, was our anchor there. Jeanne, her regular partner,  had a well deserved day off! The 2 of them can handle any size crowd with ease! Our newest volunteer of 2 weeks, Debra, was there at her 2nd new game...what a trooper! She had Carla right next to her, showing her the ropes. And then there is Laura. She is amazing..will fill in at any post! You gotta love her. Dusty, who also is a long timer, is at Souvenirs with Kitty. The two of them are hustling! Then there is Steve and Lorie, this is their 2nd year, who have adopted one of the Fishing for Fun games! Barb and Dave serve at the 2nd Fishing game. Barb can’t be with us today, so Dorothy is helping out at both Fishing games. We love her, she is another one coming out of retirement to help!

Slow Poke champion

This week’s Grand Slowpoke went to 1 1/2 year old Vivian Jean Cardinal from Shakopee.

And there’s Jean, who has adopted the Turtle Roll game with Debbie. Kris is holding down the Ring Toss game, and who can forget Dennis? He comes to entertain each week, enjoying the kids as much as they are entertained by him! Christy, another new volunteer, is holding down the Bag the Turtle game. Now to the prize table...where Beth, Mary and Janie  are fighting for their lives...just kidding.... helping the children pick out their treasures....it’s like a feeding frenzy!! So much good stuff! Down at the Turtle Mobile we have Sarah announcing and Dawn handling the music. The turtles are being managed by Emery and Brooklyn. They are a well oiled machine, not missing a beat. Willy, of course, is keeping a watch over the turtles. Sadie, Addie and Pat are judging each race...making sure there is integrity in our judging. Our racers take this very seriously and we owe them fair races. We have more loyal volunteers, who are not with us today..like Patty A and Patty O, Jan, Kathy D, Diane, Elsie, Anne, Mary Jo, Paulette, Ed, Gary, Christine, Cindy, Kathy S, Shirley and Kim. And, our fearless leader, Jane. There you have it. We have a village. See you next week...we are soooo excited for it! Bless you.
