Gwendolyn “Gwenn” Padgett

b. April 11, 1941 d. Feb. 13, 2024

Gwenn Padgett 82, of Grand Rapids MN, was called home by her Lord and Savior on February 13, 2024 at St. Mary’s in Duluth MN.

Gwendolyn Ellen Holm was born on April 11, 1941 in Wirt Township. She grew up in Dora Lake, MN. Gwenn married James Padgett on September 24, 1955 in Mason City, Iowa. They made their home and raised their children in Dora Lake, MN. Throughout her life she had several endeavors such as Tupperware Dealer, bank teller at Woodland Bank for many years, but her main job in her life was helping her husband Jim. She planted thousands of trees, poled the rice boat, but would often get lost because she couldn’t see over the canoe much to the dismay of Jim. She bought boughs, bought rice, and loved to cook and bake. If you ever stopped by there was always room at Gwenn’s table for good food, cup of coffee, and great conversation, and if you were lucky you may have a hot cinnamon roll fresh from her oven.

Gwenn loved her grandchildren who knew her as Gonga and on many nights she could be seen in the stands cheering them on to victory while at the same time trying to keep Jim from sharing his views with the refs. She also loved the Minnesota Twins and could name all the players and their positions .

She is survived by brother Wes Waller (Sharon) and sister Cheryl Pike (Gregg). She will be deeply missed by her children Kimberly Lane (Andrew), Randy Padgett, Greg Padgett (Sue), and Kelly Padgett. The hearts of her grandchildren are broken. Ryan Giehler, Mandi Payment (Justin) Brandon Miller, Colby Miller, Jordan Padgett, Lindon Padgett (Kim), Step Grandchildren: Rachel Lane-Barto (Marcus), Tony Lane (Ona), Greg Lane (Lisa) and 16 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents Helen and Clifford Waller and sister Joan, and in-laws Charlie and Helen Padgett.

The family of Gwenn Padgett would like to thank The Pillars for taking such good care of Gwenn for the last 13 months. She thought of everyone there as her family. Also a thanks to Grand Itasca Hospital and Meds 1 ambulance, St. Mary’s Duluth for the excellent care. It was at St. Mary’s that Gwenn became absent from her body and present with the Lord. Also, a special thank you to Lance and Karla for all of the care support and love they gave to Gwenn.

Visitation will be Friday, February 23, 2024, 4 to 6 p.m. at Carroll Funeral Home, 314 Main Ave. East, Deer River, MN. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24 at 11 a.m. at Grace Gospel Church, 95 Hodgins Ave., Taconite, MN
