At the start of the Wednesday turtle races on August 14, the long-awaited drawing for the annual quilt raffle took place. The young turtle race participant who drew the winning name was Tatum Benson of Superior, WI. This was his first time to get to do a turtle race and he was excited to get to participate this year. The winner of this year’s quilt is Christine Corbett who moved permanently to Longville two years ago but has been visiting the area for most of her life. When asked what she planned to do with the quilt, she said she is using it to replace an older family quilt. When her name was called as the quilt raffle winner, she was busy volunteering at the turtle races—which she has also done since moving to Longville. She is also a newer member of the Longville Lions Club and is excited about all the activities Longville has to offer. This year’s quilt was made by local quilt-maker Jane Spaude who is also a member of the YAH Club. Photos by Cora Hohnstadt.
