   The Kitchigami Regional Library System will host For the Love of Loons: A Storytime for All Ages with Author Laura Purdie Salas – Join Minnesota Book Award-winning author Laura Purdie Salas for this interactive book celebration of our Minnesota State Bird. Laura will share portions of her two books about loons: “Finding Family: The Duckling Raised by Loons” (a 2025 Star of the North Award Nominee) and “Secrets of the Loon”. Help Laura read, learn to walk like a loon, find out a bit about the book creation process, and ask questions. Open to all ages. Through the month of August while supplies last, you may pick up a Loon “Take n’ Make” art kit to bring home or to the cabin as a fun activity with the kids. 

   Special stops on this tour include the Crosslake Area library and the National Loon Center will host Laura at the Nest in the Crosslake Town Square and Wadena Public Library has partnered up with the Green Island Preserve and Retreat for an outside “Walk & Read” with the author on one of their beautiful trails.

   This free Legacy Program is funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage. No registration is required.
