Turtle race champion
This week’s Grand Winner was 7 year-old Hendrick Mepchent from Eden Prairie, MN.
It had to happen. So far this season, the turtle races have been rain free! Even though our summer has been pretty much... a nice day, a cloudy/rainy day... the nice days were falling on Wednesday, book ended by the not so nice days. And the turnout for the races has been splendid... one more year to celebrate. But wait, we have one more race before we put the turtle mobile to bed for the season. We are all thinking about it in disbelief that it is here already.
Resort race winner...
6 year old Nola and 3 year old Cora from Boise, Idaho captured the win this week representing All Seasons Resort. Photos submitted.
But, back to yesterday. The forecast had been for rain, but it looked like it would come after we had finished, and put main street back in order, that being around 4:00. But no... it came about 3/4 of the way through our races. And we had 383 racers... no small number! First with sprinkles, then pretty much of a downpour. That did not dampen the spirits of our racers and the turtles sure loved it! The people just headed to the sides of the street taking cover. They were not to be dissuaded by a little water after putting in their time waiting for their turn to race! And so after the downpour, the sky was just spritzing and the races were resumed. Spirits were not dampened and enthusiasm for cheering on your turtle ran high! What a bunch of troopers. And, I mean everyone... guests and volunteers. We always say, unless it is lightning or otherwise life threatening, the show must go on. We always show up!
Slow Poke champion
This week’s Grand Slowpoke went to 14 year old Gavin Homnerdiny from Rochester, MN.
So, that brings us to a close for yesterday. We are looking forward to next week with a little sadness in our hearts. With the end of the races, the season changes for our little resort town. Number one, the locals can start to come back to town on Wednesday! But it also means a changing of the season, the water is a little different in August. The State fair will start, along with the Renaissance Fair. The children will be getting ready to go back to school. And it will be Labor Day. Yikes!! The Art Crawl will come to Longville making it a huge weekend of celebration and the Lions will be serving up their famous Hog Heaven! The season is changing. We will enjoy the fabulous changing of colors and then the S word. That brings ice fishing and snowmobile riding. Something for every season in Longville. It’s all good.
