Fighting Isolation One Meal at a Time

Union Congregational Church in Hackensack has been providing a free will offering community meal every Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm for several years now. If you wonder why this is so important, the best answer is that a meal with others is always special and important, particularly when you live in Central Minnesota, where the driveways are longer, the woods are thicker, and the winters always colder. Should you find yourself isolated or disconnected, it is especially important. Should your family not be able to be with you, it is even more important. It is even of greater importance if too many of your family are coming for Thanksgiving! If you need a break from preparing food, just bring them all over to the November 22nd Wednesday night meal for some good old fashioned home cooking by our master cook, Tammy. Whatever the reason, the solution is the Thanksgiving community meal of turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables and dessert on Wednesday evening November 22, from 5:00-6:30 pm.

You ask, “Does a meal rise to the level of a news item”? Other than breathing, eating is the next most important thing you need to keep yourself alive. But what nourishes us even more than food, is talking and listening to other human beings.

We hope to see you at the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack on Wednesday Nov. 22 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. The church is located at 401 Lake Avenue. E.
