May 17, 1923
Charlie Campbell left Federal Dam for Cass Lake where he will work this summer.
A few public-spirited men went to Riverside cemetery last week, dynamited the stumps, dragged the roads and burned great piles of brush. 100% improvement.
Stephen Boe, Halvor Berger, Carl Engstrand, and Oscar Iverson went to Minneapolis to work.
75 Years Ago
May 7, 1948
Nestor Sala died April 27th in Minneapolis. He was a long-time resident of Boy Island.
Several people got up early to see “The Freedom Train” go through Bena on its way to Duluth.
Etta Mae Elwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Elwell, entertained several young friends at her fifth birthday party at the D & M Café.

A potluck dinner was held at the Congregational church of Longville for graduates Sherry Manders, Greg Ravenhorst, Ed Paul and Doug Bryngelson.
The Peter Neururer family, Garry and family, John and his wife and Chuck were all home at Federal Dam from Minneapolis for Easter.
The Remer OK Hardware is hauling in fill for their new building, Gen & Joe’s Mart has been sold, the Remer Plumbing & Heating building and car wash has new fronts, and the L&L Drive-In has opened.

The Remer Ambulance Service members gratefully acknowledge the donation by the Northland Lions of a snowmobile and four-wheeler to pull our rescue sled.
Hollie Ann Peterson was born April 16th to Scott and Tonya Peterson of Boy River. Grandparents are Steve and Sharon Peterson of Boy River.
Sarah Wheeler and Dara Hillstrom were named valedictorian and salutatorian at the Northland High School Academic Honor Banquet on May 4th at the Salem Lutheran church sponsored by the Northland Lions Club.
