Storm spotter training April 6 at Crooked Lake Town Hall

   The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Leech Lake Tribal Police - Emergency Management Divisions are hosting in-person Skywarn® Storm Spotter Training on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the Crooked Lake Township Hall from 6 - 8 p.m.

      


   The workshop is free and open to the public, there will be door prizes and snacks provided. Topics to be covered include:

   • Basics of thunderstorm development

   • Fundementals of storm structure

   • How to identify potential severe weather features

   • What information to report and procedures for reporting

   • Basic severe weather safety guidelines

   Skywarn® is a volunteer program with over 350,000 trained severe weather spotters. Volunteers provide timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service (NWS) in at effort to keep their local communities safe. The program began in the 1970s and has enabled the NWS to issue more timely warnings for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods.  

   All members of the Crooked Lake Township Road Ambassadors program are encouraged to attend.
