Wednesday, April 5 Changing the Narrative: A discussion on mental health and suicide

Do you or someone you know struggling with mental health issues or is even suicidal? Have you wondered what you can do to help? Talking about mental health and suicide can be an uncomfortable and uncertain topic that brings up different feelings, beliefs and attitudes for everyone. Changing the Narrative is an interactive conversation that empowers participants to change perceptions of mental health towards hope and resilience. The goal it to know that help is available, suicide can be preventable and healing is possible.

   Participants will:

   • Understand the importance of language surrounding mental health and suicide.

   • Reflect on eight dimensions of wellness.

   • Identify risk and protective factors.

   • Feel empowered to respond to someone in distress.

   • Discuss feelings, beliefs and attitudes while talking about mental health and suicide.

Presenter Destiny Brown is a Suicide Prevention Instructor and Regional Coordinator for Northern Pines Mental Health Center. Meetings will be held at the Walker Area Community Center Rotary Room (105 Tower Ave. Walker) on Wednesday, April 5th from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. Please register for the 1 p.m. meeting at https://CTN1.eventbrite.com and for the 6 p.m. meeting at https://CTN6.eventbrite.com
