Outing Library honors Norton Stillman
The Outing Volunteer Library is celebrating a local celebrity, Norton Stillman, in the book publishing world as his nephews honor him for his 90th birthday. A beautiful rustic wooden bench, handmade by Bob DeWitt, has been donated with a dedicatory engraved plaque in honor of Stillman, and will be unveiled on July 7 at 2 p.m.
Stillman has lived on Woods Bay Drive on Roosevelt Lake since the 1960s. He owned Bookmen’s Book Warehouse in downtown Minneapolis and also owns Nodin Press, which specializes in publishing Minnesota authors and subjects. When the Outing Volunteer Library was first opened, he donated their latest publication, the biography of Dan Patch, the race horse, to the library as well as several other oversized books on Minnesota sports. At various times since then, he has stopped on his return from the Northland Book and Arts Festival in Hackensack and donated new books that he had published.
