With some administrators at a training meeting, most reports were given in written format and the board had no questions or comments regarding them. Superintendent Mary Yakibchuck shared that the end of the school year went really well and had a lot of activities packed into the final days. She also mentioned the first session of summer school just finished up and there were 18 high school students out of 22 that earned a half credit along with elementary students really enjoying the activites.

There was also a discussion regarding ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) III 161 funds, which must be used only for activities that address the academic impact of lost instructional time, and how to use them. The current proposed usage is to use these funds to construct a multi-use outdoor court, which will consist of two basketball half courts and a pickleball/tennis court, and purchase one piece of equipment for the weightroom.

Katie Hildenbrand with Architectural Resources, Inc. joined the meeting remotely to comment on the bid received for the field project. The only bid that was received was from Peterson Companies, Inc. in the amount of $149,900. It was noted that the bid came in as a lump sum with no breakdown of what each individual project costs. Board Chair Marc Ruyak mentioned the board would like bids broken down in the future. The bid was approved by all members of the board.

   In other Board action:

   • Approved multiple renewal of contracts for Fiscal year 2024.

   • Approved the hire of Carrie Ann Mortenson as 3rd grade teacher with a start date of Aug. 28.

   • Approved reducing a full-time para position to a part-time para position.

   • Accepted the resignation of Courtney Christensen as Track and Field/Cross Country coach effective June 9.

   • Approved posting for the positions of a Licensed Social Worker and Long-Term Building Substitute.

The board has scheduled the following meetings: the regular meeting, Wed., July 19 at 5:30 p.m. and work session, Wed., Aug 2 at 5:30 p.m. all meetings are held at Northland High School.
