  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

July 26, 1923

  Jim Shepard and family of Remer were visiting in Wabedo township.

   John Vangen had the misfortune of having his pig killed by lightning Sunday night.

   H.E. Bongo of Onigum is the proud owner of a new Johnson motor.

75 Years Ago

July 25, 1948

   The Blind Lake Golden Gophers had its annual picnic at the Ahern home. 

   Melvin Myers had his hand crushed at the Tobiason Mill on Saturday and returned home

from Grand Rapids hospital on Sunday.

50 Years Ago

July 26, 1973

   Mr. and Mrs. Norman Dauber and Mary DeLong attended services Sunday at Glad Rock Bible camp.

   Mr. and Mrs. John McCarthy are having extensive remodeling work done on their home by Tony Bastle and son.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ted Bryant and girls are new residents on Mule Lake. They are building a new home there.

25 Years Ago

July 28, 1998 

   Irene McBride, an original member of the Cass County Emergency Medical Technicians and resident of the Remer area since the 1940s, has been named Grand Marshal for the 1998 Remer Harvest Festival Parade on August 8th.

   Roy Ahlbom married Mildred Schulze on Oct. 31, 1943, and they moved to Remer in 1950. He was a contractor and stone mason for 50 years. He died July 19th.

   Geraldine Lou Sayers-Brown was born Jan. 28, 1954, in Federal Dam. She grew up in the Longville area and was an Army veteran. She died July 19th.
