   Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that on Monday July 10th 2023 at 5:49 p.m. the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an overdue fisherman that had been fishing on Leech Lake and did not return to his residence near Walker, MN.  Deputies began searching Leech Lake via land, boat, and air, locating the fisherman’s boat on the east shore of Sucker Bay around 8:18 p.m. A search of the area was conducted, and the fisherman was not located. The search began again on July 11th 2023 at 07:00 a.m. At 6:32 p.m., the body of Kenneth Sobczyk, age 71, of Walker and Leawood, Kansas, was located in Leech Lake in the area of Sucker Bay. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. 

   Assisting with the search and recovery was the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lakes Area Dive Team.
