100 Years Ago

July 5, 1923

  Tracts of land, 9404 acres, will be opened for homesteads on Chippewa Indian Reservation lands at Leech Lake, Red Lake, White Earth and Winnibigoshish lakes.

   We are expecting to hear the Longville band in open air concerts every week.

   Rev. Richardson of Remer held services in Federal Dam last Sunday.

75 Years Ago

July 2, 1948

   Mrs. Henry Van Giffen of Tacoma, WA. spent several days at the Art Falk home in Hackensack.

   Holiday Camp opened last Saturday when the girls arrived for the summer.

   M.D. Hart, who purchased the Fred Mayer place is here getting the place ready to move his family up to Pontoria.

50 Years Ago

July 5, 1973

   Thilda Martin, born March 27, 1884 married Victor Martin on July 5, 1911. They moved to a farm on the west side of Birch Lake. The only transportation was by boat.

    Shannon Dawn, 6 lbs. 8 oz., was born to Alan and Sue Weaver of Minneapolis on June 15th.

   On June 23, 9 grain-laden cars of the Soo Line were derailed about 1 ½ mile west of Remer.

25 Years Ago

July 7, 1998 

   Lenora Marie Smith (8/23/53 - 6/27/1998) was born to Edward and Joyce Cickman Parise. She left after graduation and returned to Remer in 1987. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the CROPS program. She married Gary D. Smith 9/27/1997.

   Melissa Schultz of Remer was named to the Dean’s list at University of St. Thomas.
