100 Years Ago

January 31, 1923

   Found—One half-pint of frozen moonshine last Saturday night. It had been placed in the wrong wagon box. Owner can have by proving ownership and paying storage fees. Don’t all speak at once!

   Some from Wabedo attended the “candy pull” at Kargel’s Saturday night.

 75 Years Ago

January 23, 1948

   Kenneth Strait is attending the Locker Plant convention in Minneapolis.

   Jack Renn broke his right shoulder while playing basketball on the town team of Remer against Walker’s town team on Thursday night. 

   Mr. Oleson and Miss Link called on Mrs. J. Whitted and the schoolhouse at Boy River Tuesday.

50 Years Ago

January 25, 1973

   Mr. and Mrs. Barney Durkee are remodeling the liquor store at Federal Dam by moving the bar and adding more tables and booths.

   John Slagle is home in Longville with his parents, the Glenn Slagles, for several weeks while waiting for the Great Lakes boats to start up again.

   Becky Scheibe of Moorhead State spent the weekend at the Irv Scheibe home on Mule Lake.

January 27, 1998 

   Saturday January 17, volunteers gathered at a tamarack swamp near the Longville Airport to cut 8,500 board feet of timber for the School Forest bog walk.

   Capt. Charles “Chuck” Gilstead, 71 died January 19th. He was born in Boy River township to Laura and Alfred Gilstead. He married Edith C. Neururer on October 1, 1949.

   Herman Herbert “Herb” Papenfus died January 19th at age 80. In 1968 he moved to Boy River and married Janice Cleveland in 1969. Their children are Phyllis, Tony, and Duane.
