100 Years Ago

January 18, 1923

   A fire in Hackensack threatened to burn the whole town. The Land Office, the Shoe Shop, Independent Printing Office, the post office, and a hardware store were lost.

   Several from Wabedo attended the dance at Hamilton’s and all report a good time.

   Three of the Longville school bus drivers have put up their autos for the winter and are using their sleds. Snow is a little too deep in some places for the cars.

 75 Years Ago

January 9, 1948

   Jim O’Neal, Elmer Struss, Tiny and Susie Shoemaker and Louis visited at the Harold Ringstrom home. Tiny is now a registered nurse and works at the Deer River hospital.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles Slagle, Glen Slagle and Helen Neururer drove to Eveleth Sunday to take Kenneth back to school.

   The Elling Sonju and Louie LeTourneau families and Sonny Henderson were New Year’s eve supper guests at A. Ericksons.

50 Years Ago

January 11, 1973

   The Seidenstrickner family have moved to Federal Dam and will live in the Morse cabin until spring.

   Scott Zaffke, Oscar Nyvall, Jerry Berge and Wayne Peterson visited with Pat and Bev Felton in Minneapolis on the night before they were taken into the service.

   A fire on December 30 leveled the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Hare on the former Moody farm on the Boy River road.

25 Years Ago

January 13, 1998 

   Senior Mia Peterson broke the Northland High school girls’ scoring record Thursday in leading her Lady Eagle team to a 99-29 romp of Nashwauk-Keewatin.

   Longville Area Cub Scout Pack 88 will hold its Pinewood Derby at 6:30 at the Longville Elementary school.

   The Northwoods Trail Runners Club will sponsor a Radar Run from 11 to 3 on Birch Lake as part of “Back to Hack” festivities.
