100 Years Ago

February 15, 1923

   The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bongo died this morning of pneumonia.

   Will Shepard of Wabedo township had the good luck to get another wolf Friday.

   Gust Kuhlander came over from the Agency in a raging blizzard on Tuesday. He was guided by a team of Indian ponies who with good judgement, will always make it home.

 75 Years Ago

February 6, 1948

   Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rhoades and family were supper guests at the John Knutsons of Blind Lake.

   Those putting up ice in Blind Lake were Alfred Wickham, Norman Dauber, George Wolford, Harry McKeebe, Ernest Peterson  and Vernon Erickson. who did the cutting.

   Virgil Dickson is driving a new Ford.

50 Years Ago

February 8, 1973

   August “Polly” Kriebs retired from the Hackensack post office on February 2 after 20 years of service.

   Nancy Sawyer and Jim Flot spent the weekend at the Edwin Sawyers. They returned to school at Bemidji on Sunday.

   The Corwin Feltons, Kathy Olson and Mrs. Dave Felton went to Winnipeg for the I-500 race. Dave was one of the racers.

25 Years Ago

February 10, 1998 

   Hardy Hasser died January 30th. He moved to Cass County on July 4, 1943, from Long Prairie. He was elected to Woodrow township board in 1963 and 3 years later took the job of assessor. He was a Cass County commissioner for 8 years.

   Ben Swankier died January 31st. Born in Iowa, he came to Remer as a young man. He farmed and logged in the Remer area and worked for US Steel, retiring in 1972.

   Construction began for the new Longville Area ambulance building last week. The $135,000 building will house the ambulances and related equipment.
