Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Medical/Surgical Unit Registered Nurse Manja Holter of Remer was honored April 21 with the organization’s DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses in recognition of her empathetic and compassionate care of a patient.
She was nominated by a couple who were appreciative of the exemplary personal care and attention she provided.
“Manja made every attempt possible to make sure that all of my wife’s needs were addressed and was always pushing for the best outcome of her care,” the patient’s spouse wrote. “She gave a very clear and concise explanation to the nurse who came on to take over her shift to make sure the goals for her care would continue as planned in order to recover in a quick and timely manner. She was also very personal with family and patient keeping them at the center of her attention. Thank you Manja for your understanding with people who are very sick.”

A member of CRMC’s medical staff since 2021, Holter earned her Associate degree in Nursing at Hibbing Community College. She also holds a Diploma in Practical Nursing and a Bachelor of Science degree in Publishing. Prior to CRMC, she worked as an LPN at Ecumen Grand Village in Grand Rapids. She has also served as a volunteer EMT with Remer Area Ambulance Service since 2009.
CRMC implemented the DAISY award this year. Those winning the award to date include Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse Kelly Hagestuen, Licensed Practical Nurse Dena Pribbenow, Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner Jessica Mudgett, and Medical/Surgical Unit Registered Nurse Jeenah Stern. Other nurses nominated for the award this quarter were: Mark Asmus, RN; Tracy Boyd, RN; Samantha Henrichs, RN; Dawn Hicok, LPN; Kirsten Hollinbeck, RN; Kate Kokesh, RN; Laurie Murphy, CMA; Hannah Pettman, RNA; Robyn Potter, RN; Christine Rudbeck, RN; Honi Strange, RN; and Nikki Studaker, RN.
Nurses receiving the award are chosen by a committee at CRMC. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the honoree’s colleagues, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate commending him or her as an “Extraordinary Nurse.” The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin, and a beautiful meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
