100 Years Ago

October 13, 1922

  A bill was passed and approved Sept. 22, 1922, that sets forth that any woman who is married to an alien and is, at the time of her marriage, a citizen of the United States, does not become an alien by reason of her marriage. 

   Walter Peterson of Trelipe returned Friday from Dakota where he has worked in the harvest fields for the past two months. 

   Miss Rubena Bluhm spent Saturday and Sunday with the home folks, returning to Backus on Monday.  

 75 Years Ago

Oct. 8, 1947

   The John Falks have moved to the Kearns cottage on Birch Lake for the winter.

   Mr. Fred Beaulieu and Orin Henderson are working at the Government house at Federal Dam.

   Miss Delores Myers left Remer on Tuesday for Pequot Lakes where she will be employed as a telephone operator.

50 Years Ago

October 5, 1972

   The Benefit Dance for Porky Cleveland that was held in Boy River Friday was very well attended. He is in serious condition after he was in a car accident on Labor Day.

   Dale Zorman is building a warehouse next to Mergen’s store building on Main Street.

   Emma Berres returned to Longville after spending two weeks with her son and family, the Marion Poloskys of Wayzata and her sister, Bebel Leonard of Mpls.

October 7, 1997

   Remer’s Tom Witherow exhibited his classic 1955 Ford Crown Victoria during the Fall Color Tour of Cass County stop in Longville.

   Driver Dave Mastin of Moondance Ranch prepares his Belgian horses for a trip through Longville Saturday as part of the Family Center’s Fun Day. Corey Stangel got to ride shotgun.

   Alyce May Cutter was born July 6, 1918 at Brevik to Julia Cossette and John Bungy. She attended school in Flandreau, SD and graduated with her teaching certificate. She died September 29th.
