Spider Lake ATV Recreation Area crash claims Center City man

   Sheriff Tom Burch reports that October 1st 2022 at 2:50 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a missing adult male in the Foothills State Forest/Spider Lake ATV Recreation Area. Adults camping in the area reported to a Conservation Officer that an adult male, age 54 of Center City, MN, had left the campsite on an ATV at approximately 8:30 a.m. and was to return shortly after. Upon the individual not returning to the campsite, the campers became worried and began to search the area. Several personnel from the Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers began searching the area. At 5:46 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the individual was located, deceased. The investigation indicated that the male was operating a Class I ATV when it left the roadway/trail on a curve and entered a steep ravine, rolling over. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and the incident remains under investigation.
