100 Years Ago
October 20, 1922
Walker has closed its schools for at least two weeks and maybe longer on account of the scarlet fever epidemic that is raging in this location. Teachers have returned home because of the quarantine.
Seeley Smith of Inguadona called on acquaintances in Walker on Thursday.
Bert Malmo of Hackensack was in Walker for a few days. Mr. Malmo is Superintendent of School Construction for the unorganized district.

Oct. 15, 1947
Mr. and Mrs. Don Carlson of Pine River have bought the Mathias place near Longville and expect to move in soon.
The house formerly owned by Hans Lein at Federal Dam was sold to a Remer man and was moved there last week.
The community of Boy Lake was well-represented at Elmo Erickson’s wedding dance.

October 12, 1972
Tom Slagle is home on leave from the U.S. Navy. Brother Bob is in San Diego with the Marines.
Fred Blais passed away in Illinois. His family were former residents of Remer where he operated the Standard Oil business.
DeWayne Ford of Minneapolis and the Wayne Ellison of Embarrass spent the weekend at the Ernie Ford home and all attended the football game at Northome.

October 14, 1997
Lowell L. Killian died September 25th. After the death of his first wife, Arline Magnuson in 1961, he moved to Remer where he married Anna May Pound on December 3, 1994.
He worked as a watchmaker for 22 years with Bockstruck’s Jewelry in St. Paul.
Members of the Petal Pushers Garden Club, including Bonnie Hansen, Betty Randorf and Carol Connelly, solicited the effort of John Weins to help plant nearly 1000 daffodils at Longville’s south entrance last week.
George A. Abel of Thunder Lake township died October 7th. He married Mary Jean Gilmer on April 5, 1962. He retired as a master electrician and moved to Remer in 1994.
