Crooked Lake Township Road Ambassadors version 2.0

In 2016, following a particularly damaging windstorm, the Crooked Lake Township Road Ambassadors program was created to assist residents after violent storms.  The purpose of this all volunteer group is to put “boots on the ground” to aid Crooked Lake Township with emergency services.

The Road Ambassadors are volunteer residents who can assist in their immediate areas by gathering details from their neighbors and providing related storm and power outage information directly to the CLT Emergency Services Department.  They report on locations of downed trees across public roads in an effort to coordinate the recovery activities of the CLT Emergency teams.

Road Ambassadors also attempt to keep everyone in their neighborhood current regarding the clean up operations.

Residents of CLT are encouraged to make contact with their specific neighborhood Road Ambassador when there is a weather related emergency.  A map and contact information for the Road Ambassadors can be found on the CLT website:  https://crookedlake.govoffice2.com.  Homeowners are responsible for calling 911 for all medical emergencies or injuries and the appropriate company for power outages.

Following the inception of the program, it was clear many neighbors were confused by the name.  Some called to report pot holes, others requested help with fallen trees on private property.  After the Memorial Day storm of 2022, it became apparent the Road Ambassadors program was not being utilized to its fullest extent. Many residents flooded the CLT Emergency Services Department with calls that may have been better coordinated if they passed through the various Road Ambassadors. Only a handful of people contacted their Road Ambassador directly.

In an attempt to improve the program and the lines of communication, the Road Ambassadors have been meeting on a monthly basis with members of the CLT Board. A variety of ideas have been presented and more are welcome.

To that end all existing Road Ambassadors and anyone interested in volunteering is invited to attend the Crooked Lake Township Special Town Meeting on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 6:00 PM; at the Crooked Lake Town Hall, next to the library.

For those who cannot attend in person, there is a zoom link to view and listen to the meeting. Participation will be limited to posted comments or questions using the Zoom meeting communication tools.   Use the meeting link and password below to sign into the meeting.
