Gardening 101 offered at Balsam Moon Preserve

     New to gardening?  Sign up for this Gardening 101 class at Balsam Moon Preserve on Friday, May 20, 9am-noon and learn the basics of organic gardening.  Participants will learn from instructor Geoff Davidge, a long time gardener now in training as a Master Gardener.  He’ll present the basics of soil structure, how to nurture the soil so you can grow great vegetables and flowers, how to start seeds and more.

        They say “the early bird catches the worm” and you’re sure to have fun spotting some birds and other wildlife on these early morning birding and nature hikes, also guided by Davidge, a Master Naturalist. Participants have two opportunities to come hike the trails for birding and nature observation at Balsam Moon Preserve on Sunday mornings May 22 and again June 5 from 7-9 a.m. You are likely to see and hear eagles overhead, drumming grouse, a variety of birds, white tailed deer, and possibly some surprises. 

   Registration for all classes and activities is encouraged by calling 218-587-3808 or emailing [email protected].  Balsam Moon operates on reciprocity meaning no fees are charged for classes and activities. They welcome giving in accordance to what you receive.

Balsam Moon Preserve is a non-profit organization sharing an alternative, sustainable, spiritual place of peace, honoring the earth and all living things. They offer trails, workshops on site and on-line, demonstrations of solar uses and alternative building methods, gardens, a labyrinth, overnight stays, pizza nights in the summer and opportunities to gather in community sharing our common humanity. You are also welcome to come and simply walk the trails, grounds, labyrinth or sit by the pond and enjoy nature.
