100 Years Ago

March 10, 1922

   The Young People Society was entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. Brevik on Friday evening. 

   John and George Paper made a trip to Walker for the storekeeper, Mr. Lien. 

   Mr. Olson, our Brevik mail carrier, lost another horse this week. 

   Joe Grainger, Al Travis and A. H. Rawlins are cutting bolts for Mr. Welsh. William Petersen left for Wilkinson where he will look after the horses for Mr. Welsh. 

   Happy Showalter has purchased himself a shingle rig so anyone requiring shingles just call Happy. He can make them for you. 

 75 Years Ago

March 7, 1947

  Mrs. Ed McKeig was called to Detroit Lakes Monday where Mr. McKeig is hospitalized for injuries received while switching cars there Monday morning.

   Henry Engelbretson is busy hauling pulpwood with his new International truck. Bernard Duffey is helping him.

   Peter Zumbrunnen of Trelipe Township was surprised on his 81st birthday when his six sons and two daughters gathered at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Gilmore.

50 Years Ago

March 2, 1972

   The Longville airport now has lighted runways and a flashing beacon has been installed.

   Maude Musick, born in Oklahoma in 1905, settled at Thunder Lake Township in 1910. She became a teacher and taught at Brevik, Trelipe Twp. and Ball Club, retiring in 1940 She died February 23, 1972.

   Mrs. Eva Mary (Louis) Huffman moved from Whipholt five years ago.

March 4, 1997

  Kim Peterson, a teller at First National Bank of Walker, has been selected as Customer Service Representative of the Month. She lives in Walker with her husband Ron.

   Angela Sullivan has been accepted to the UMD Medical School. She graduated with Valedictorian honors from Northland’s Class of ’93.

   Glen Dale Satre, son of Carl and Ethel (Avery) Satre died February 15th at Remer. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a former chemical dependency counselor with Cass and Crow Wing counties and an independent driver for Zorman Trucking Company.
