Longville is off to the Races

   Here we go again! Time to dust off the cobwebs, recruit all of our volunteers, find some new ones and gather up our turtles! Our first race of the year brought us all back as to why we do this! It is all about family and memories. We had 242 racers and with three or more others who would be with a racer..that gives us about our 1000 people who populate Main Street Longville each Wednesday now until our last race on August 17th. It is all pretty unbelievable how a tiny little town like Longville can do this? You know why? Because Longville is that old fashioned small town filled with kind, generous people that you read about in storybooks. Everyone you see here...setting up all the games, the turtle mobile, the prize table, the registration booth...all volunteers... the YMCA camp fellows are helping our VFW Post veterans. Our game volunteers come from all over the community. This year we were very fortunate as many of the “newcomers” to Longville attended our Welcome Back pizza party and signed up! They all loved it and they are now “hooked”. The Longville Lions run their cotton candy booth..and never get a chance to sit down ..helping the steady stream of customers young and old !! Frosty’s is out front and center with hot dogs, snow cones and other goodies. The Turtle Town Cafe joined in offering walking taco treats. Paul is a key player, bringing in the Turtle mobile and key in the set up. John and Charlie are in the booth calling the shots and we are blessed with lots of young people who help get the turtles in and out of the ring and spot the Fast and Slow winners. You can see - our volunteers run the gamut in age. It Does Take A Village...and we love that! The show starts at 1:00 p.m. with hula hooping and dancing. The  turtle races  start at 2:00 p.m. We are generally done by 3:30 p.m so we can turn the street back to normal. It all sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? Come see for yourself! I dare you. You will fall in love with Longville.
