I thought their colors were purple and yellow?

It seems that the Longville Lions have introduced a new color scheme for themselves. For seven years now, every Wednesday during the Turtle Race season here in Longville, the Lions have been pink and blue!!! I am referring to Cotton Candy!!! An idea of Karen Krueger’s has blossomed and mushroomed into a major contributor to the funds the Lions generate to give out each year to worthy causes. Each Wednesday, you can see the lines forming..there is no sitting down for whomever is running the cotton candy twirling machine!! In fact, for the 4th of July they used 2 machines and the lines were still huge! It is truly heartwarming to see the eyes of children, of all ages, get bigger and bigger as they watch that candy grow right in front of them.

Being the fun loving group that we are, there is no surprise that cotton candy fit right into our repertoire of things we do to raise money to give away!! We love serving food and the hospitality that goes along with that. Our Lions truck can be seen at the Docksider parking lot many times during the season for Paws and Claws fundraiser,

Memorial Day, Community Garage Sale in June, 4th of July in the food court, our Corn Feed in August, our famous Hog Heaven Labor Day weekend and Oktoberfest in mid September.

The Lions have been a major Champion of the Longville Area Community Garden and are the fiduciary arm of that organization. Many of the

Lions have spent untold hours planning and executing the formation of the gardens, walking paths, dog park, etc. Four Blood Drives, picking the ditches for two miles in and out of Longville and maintaining the Lion’s can bin at the recycling area round out the many things the Lions do to contribute to the community they love.

Want something done? Ask a Lion. We are a fun loving group. We enjoy each other and what we do. There is no lack of opportunities, but no one is under any pressure. Stop by and check us out. We meet at Patrick’s the 3rd Monday of each month between April and November at

5:00 p.m. We’d love to meet you!
