Fatal OHV accident investigated
Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on July 9th 2022 at 10:28 AM, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) crash on the Lake Alice Road NW in Shingobee Township, rural Akeley MN. Deputies arrived on scene and met with the reporting party, who was travelling on the Lake Alice Road when the OHV crash scene was discovered. Deputies located a 2021 CAN AM MaverickS OHV that had lost control on the roadway, entered the ditch, struck a large oak tree and caught fire. Located inside the OHV was the single occupant, a male, age 23 of Waterville MN, deceased. The initial investigation indicates that the male was operating the OHV alone during the previous evening, with the crash occurring sometime after midnight. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and the crash remains under investigation.
Assisting at the crash scene were the Walker Fire Department and State of MN Fire Marshalls Office.
