In Training for the Big One!

This last week went super smooth in the world of turtle racing! We had 327 folks racing turtles, the usual assortment of brothers, sisters, moms, dads and grandparents along to give us that nice round number of 1000 plus guests on Main Street. Couple that with cotton candy, hot dogs, snow cones, walking tacos and lots of games …..close your eyes and you are at a carnival anywhere in the world. But it’s better than that…you are at home in Longville.

The turtle squad, let’s call the approximately 50 volunteers who commit to a season of 10-12 races, is all revved up for July the 6th race! Some of us remember a race like that some years back when we had 576 racers ….do the math and you can see it will be a big day. Nothing we cannot handle. I am so proud of all of our volunteers, young and old, 10 to 80 something, who happily commit themselves to running the races. When you see those bright yellow Longville t-shirts next Wednesday, thank them….they’ll give you a big smile as to say….my pleasure. In the meantime we’ll all get plenty of rest for the big event….but wait…you’re in Longville, the little town with lots of activities…..we have our huge 4th of July celebration….fabulous parade, the streets will be lined with thousands of people, lots of bouncy houses for the kids, water wars, a bean bag tournament and food court. And fireworks over Girl Lake that will take your breath away. We can sleep later! See you at the races….
