Hwy. 6 construction through Remer downtown to begin July 5

  Construction work on Hwy. 6 between Etna Ave. and 3rd Ave. E. through Remer is scheduled to begin July 5. The reconfigured design will include taking the current 4-lane design to a one-lane in each direction, a center turn lane, side street parking on both sides and a grass boulevard along the sidewalk. Improvements to storm sewers, curb and gutter, ditch drainage, city water main work and finally repaving will take place. These improvements are scheduled to be completed by mid September.

   Residents and travelers should expect to encounter flaggers, equipment, workers and closed off areas to work beneath the road or sidewalk.

   Motorists should expect periodic lane closures, lane shifts, flaggers and changes to access. Oversize overweight restrictions will occur as construction gets underway.

   Pedestrian sidewalks will be open on one side of the road as crews close and work on the opposite side. Watch, and expect for changes as work progresses. 

   Access will be maintained and open to businesses via back door entries to visitors and residents along Hwy. 6. Be prepared to encounter gravel surfaces and use alternate routes.
