Everybody had a good time at the New Years Dance at the Bide-a-Wee Inn.
Deputy Sheriff Rogers discovered 100 gallons of mash stored away in a hole in the ground close to the Hilligoss residence near the east end of Ten Mile Lake. Mr. Hilligoss reportedly will plead guilty to running an illicit still and was taken into custody.
Jack Brennan, one of Hackensack’s popular garage men, visited Walker this week.
Mr. and Mrs. S. Murphy entertained 35 guests at a New Year’s dinner.
Ervin McPherson, principal of the Boy River school, says Boy River has a pretty fast town basketball team and would probably agree to a game with the Walker team.

James Miller, proprietor of the New Remer Hotel, is having some neon signs installed this week.
School started in Hackensack on Monday to make up some lost time because of the polio epidemic.
Friends of Hirschel Robideaux in Moose Lake Township, Pine River and Pequot might be interested in knowing that he is on his way to Antarctica with the Byrd Expedition.

Gordon Lilyquist has moved his barber shop into a new building at Remer.
New Year’s Eve trail riders were Phil and Rosalie Likens, Mary and Bud Slagle, Dick and Jane Stresnak, Tony and Judy Jordan and Carol and Terry Johnston.
Captain Phil Wattles of Bemidji spent Tuesday with the Monte McKeig family at Federal Dam and got in some snowmobiling.
Mary Ann Kibbler worked at the Glass Block Beauty Salon for fourteen years. While in Duluth she met Toney Lake. They were married January 8th and moved back to Boy River to County Rd. 12, one mile from where she was born.

Mildred E. Lucas died December 17, 1996. She married Harvey Lucas on September 30, 1956. They moved to Little Boy Lake near Longville in 1975.
Bird Watchers are needed for the Annual Deep Portage Winter Bird Count on January 4th. This past year 190 volunteers from a 17-county area participated.
The Longville Area Family Center, in its first year with Toys for Tots, would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who contributed. A special thanks to Bev Egan, who after many years of running Toys for Tots, has turned over a well-organized program.
