Annual Food Shelf Campaign kicks off Feb. 28

Annual Food Shelf Campaign kicks off Feb. 28
Annual Food Shelf Campaign kicks off Feb. 28

The Minnesota Food Share March Campaign is an annual statewide effort to help local food shelves fight hunger.  Fundraising donations stay local, but count towards the statewide effort. The more that is raised locally, the larger the share of the statewide campaign. This year’s campaign is February 28th – April 10th. The Longville Area Food Shelf (LAFS) is again asking individuals, organizations, businesses, and townships to join us in supporting our local food shelf.

Many in our community – elderly, children, friends and neighbors – continue to suffer from hunger and food insecurity. Your contributions, no matter how small, help us to wage the war against hunger.

   Hunger Facts:

   • In the past few years, the percentage of Minnesota families with hunger insecurity has been on the rise.

   • Minnesota has about 197,000 families with incomes below the poverty line. This includes approximately 143,000 children.

   • The Longville Area Food Shelf had 1,320 visits in 2021.

The Longville Area Food Shelf does much more than then help with food. We provide coats, blankets, socks, and other items to our Food Shelf Clients.  We can assist those in need of help with other household items as well.

Most of our food donation budget is raised during the March Campaign. Remember – every dollar you donate is used to benefit the food shelf clients, who are also our neighbors! ALL overhead costs (heat, electricity, phone, etc.) are covered by proceeds from Tossed & Found Boutique.

There are many ways to help support this campaign. Individuals, businesses and/or organizations can donate funds by mail at PO Box 308, Longville MN 56655, in person at the food shelf or Tossed & Found, or you can make an online donation at GiveMN.com. If you want to do more, you could hold a Food and/or fund drive.

Food is a basic human need. Please help to make a difference in our community. With your help, we can work to relieve some of the struggles of having to choose between buying food or paying rent.

We are grateful for your compassion and continued support to help end hunger.
