Grant available for would-be area teachers


   The School Districts of Long Prairie Grey Eagle, Cass Lake Bena, Northland Community Schools-Remer, and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley in Region 5 have received the Teachers of Color and American Indian Teachers Grow Your Own (TOCAIT GYO) grant from the Minnesota Department of Education. 

This grant focuses on eliminating financial and academic roadblocks that occur for underrepresented minorities to pursue a teaching degree.

Scholarship recipients may choose to attend St. Cloud State University, Bemidji State University or Hamline University to provide this opportunity through the grant. 

Scholarship applications will be received through March 30, 2022.

Recipient Criteria:

   • Must be part of a minority ethnic group

   • Must live or work in one of the receiving districts

   • Must be committed to completing a teaching degree

   • Must be willing to work in one of the receiving districts for at least 3 years upon completion of degree.
