100 Years Ago
January 4, 1923
Alex Schmafel came to Hackensack seven years ago and built the royal confectionery and built an addition and named it the Royal annex in 1919.
Lawrence Emery and Madge Curtis were quietly married in Walker on December 23rd and are at home at their farm in Pine Lake twp.
E.J. Aultman is hauling freight from Boy River station for R.W. Fuller.
75 Years Ago
December 26, 1947
Norm Hanson and Sam Robinson have a crew of men logging the eighty south of the fire tower at Longville.
Harry Swanson treated everyone to a barbecued caribou dinner. Guests were from Boy River, Bena, Palisade, Aitkin, Grand Rapids, Longville and Bemidji.
Early Monday morning the village hall at Federal Dam was destroyed by fire.
50 Years Ago
December 28, 1972
Gordon Lilyquist built a new Laundromat and barbershop across from the Remer OK Hardware.
A hard frost on June 10th killed most of the wild berries. This caused the Black Bear to den-up before bear season.
The faculty and personnel of Remer Northland High School enjoyed a dinner at Deer Haven.

December 30, 1997
Ralph McCready keeps the area weather records for the St. Paul Weather Bureau and has done so for the past six years. The record coldest temperature recorded was on January 31, 1996, a numbing 58 below zero. Five months later on June 29th, the record high was recorded at 98 degrees.
Milford “Curley” Paul died December 20th. He and his wife Kaytee moved to Longville in 1977 where he was a contract carried for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1994.
The Albert Ford Garage on Main St and Hwy 84 was built in 1918 and was located where Lori’s Luvs is now.
