100 Years Ago
August 25, 1922
A number of enterprising farmers living near Hackensack formed a Guernsey Breeders’ Association. Dr. Button and Harley D. Coffland seemed to be the moving spirits in this worthy enterprise.
A general fire alarm was sent out Tuesday from the Ten Mile Lake District and the vicinity of Cyphers, and all available men were rushed to the scene of the conflagration. A wall of fire one mile long was sweeping down upon the settlers east of the Shingobee and fire fighters had hard work to save the buildings. Dan McDowell of Ten Mile Lake lost all his hay and firefighters had a hard time saving his buildings and others nearby.
75 Years Ago
August 23, 1947
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pound of Remer was completely destroyed by fire about 3:00 o’clock in the morning.
Leaving Longville for the Dakota harvest fields were Jack Johnson, Robert Ford, James Murray and Arthur DeWitt.
Lloyd Whitted and family of Boy River left for North Dakota where he expects to be employed. They will move in about two weeks.

August 17, 1972
The Grand Opening of “The Red Garter” a new addition to the Long Pine Cafe at Longville, will be held August 18th, 19th, and 20th
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Weaver from Bath, New York were Saturday callers at the Dick Spanjers. Mrs. Weaver is the former Margaret Luebben of Longville.
Donald Wake of Washington, D.C. visited his parents, the Gerald Wakes and his in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Coombs of Cass Lake.

August 19, 1997
Longville City will seek bids for the construction of a new ambulance building and city offices to be located on Hwy 84 on the southern edge of the airport property.
Three more hangars may be added to the Longville Airport property this fall.
A Cass County feller named Ben; once called his poor wife “an old hen”. And the judge of the court, promptly sentenced this wart, to ninety-nine years in the “pen”.
