100 Years Ago

April 28, 1922

   Albert Ford is back from Minneapolis where he spent about two months. 

   C. J. White is at Remer this week overseeing the start of county road work there. Ed Letourneau of Remer will drive the 10-ton Holt Tractor and Thomas Swankier will run  the grader. 

   Paul Jordan had an operation for appendicitis at Jamestown, N.D. but is doing well. 

 75 Years Ago

April 24, 1947

  Collier’s new store building at Remer is about completed. New furniture arrived and is being installed. Plans are to open by May 1st.

   Mrs. Grace Hilderbran and sons Raymond and Jeff left Blind Lake Twp. for Washington for an extended stay.

   The Longville baseball team is sponsoring a dance at Nyvall’s Pavilion on May 3rd. Admission is $1.00 per couple.

50 Years Ago

April 20, 1972

   Miss Gloria L. Kading has been named as Postmaster of the Hackensack post office by the Postmaster General.

   Mr. C. Ince, Old Agency village, has been authorized to collect garbage in the communities of Old Agency and Onigum. 

   Cecelia McKeig received word that her brother, Capt. Phil Wattles, was recently presented the Distinguished Flying Cross at Forbes AFB, Kansas for meritorious action while piloting a C130 aircraft in the Republic of Vietnam.

April 22, 1997

  Erickson’s Super Ford Service in Remer is being torn down and replaced by Dennis Stefan with a laundromat and car wash.

   Harvey Joseph McClimek was born December 27, 1920 at Bena. He attended school in Bena and Federal Dam. He worked in the Park Rapids CCC camp and served in the Navy in WWII. He was employed by MnDOT in the Remer area until his retirement. He died April 11th.

   Alan Scheibe received medals posthumously awarded to his father, Irvin while serving in the Army During WWII. The Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
