100 Years Ago
Nov. 24, 1921
County surveyor J. M. Green has been platting Little Bass Lake for Patten & Rehr. This is a summer resort project, Oak Park Beaches. He is also platting out Riverside Cemetery in Longville.
The new Consolidated School at Hackensack was opened Monday. Thirteen school vans were employed to bring children to and from school. Enrollment that first day was 100.
One of the thermometers at Ah Gwah Ching registered 18 degrees below zero Saturday night.

Nov. 22, 1946
Brennan’s Sundries store in Hackensack, which C.R. “Red” and his wife have operated for the last 18 years was sold to Mr., and Mrs. Arnold Metzer. Metzers also operate the Texaco Filling station.
The Remer Café changed ownership last week when Mr. & Mrs. Snakenburg sold the business to Mr. & Mrs. Hiram Butterfield.
About 35 to 40 guests attended a shower for newlyweds Mr. & Mrs. Harry Holverson at his mother Ida’s home.

Nov. 18, 1971
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Cutler have moved to Remer from Glidden, WI . He is the Assistant Ranger at the Forestry Station.
Matilda Augusta Reuman was born in New York in 1881. Both her parents died, so she and her three siblings were put on an Orphan Train bound for Algona, Iowa. She married Robert Ephraim Locke. They had 8 children, several of whom lived at Remer.
Marinetta Carpenter went to the Cities to visit her father, Bud Carpenter, who is a patient at the Vets Hospital.

Mildred Ruth Ahblom died November 3rd at age 76. She was married to Roy A. Ahlbom on October 31, 1942. They moved to Remer in 1950 where she worked as a nurse and also as a waitress in several restaurants for many years.
Remer and Longville DARE Program students were visited by the Army National Guard’s Drug Reduction Team when they landed their helicopter on the elementary grounds on October 3rd.
Angela Pierce, daughter of Leslie and Nora Pierce of Longville, is spending fall semester in China through the Center of International Education at the college of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.
