   Northland Community School will be hosting their Annual Veterans’ Day Program Thursday, November 11, at 2:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. 

   The Student Leadership Team will be serving a lunch to VFW Post 772 and Auxiliary at 12:30 p.m. prior to the program. 

   The Wall of Honor will again be on display in the commons, recognizing veterans from family members of Northland Community Schools. 

  Special guests this year are the VFW Post #772, Women’s Auxiliary and MN Representative Spencer Igo. The program will host performances by the Northland High School band under the direction of Josie Gruba and the Northland Eagles Drum Group.

   Patchwork Pals members Jeanette Bruckbauer, Nancy Watkins, Carol Evans, Jean Iverson and Lars Raftevold will be distributing quilts they have made to the local Veterans who attend the program. 

   All veterans are invited to attend and the program is open to the public. 

   The Backus American Legion will sponsor a special Veterans’ Day tribute by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on Park Rapids KDKK Radio 97.5 FM. The program is scheduled to run over the noon hour Thursday, Nov. 11.

  Lakeside Baptist Church of Backus will present a special program in honor of our veterans, entitled “Music for Our Heroes” November 14th at 10:15 a.m. This program has been designed with songs from 11 wars in which our veterans have won and preserved our liberty. From our War for Independence to the War on Terror, each is represented with songs like Yankee Doodle, Over There, Remember Pearl Harbor, Ballad of the Green Berets, God Bless the USA and more. 

   All veterans will be recognized and will receive a gift. The program is open to the public. Lakeside Baptist Church is located at 125 Church Lane in Backus, across from the DNR station. For more information call 218-947-4955 or see lbcbackus.com.

   In Hackensack, the Hackensack American Legion Post 202 will commemorate Veterans Day Thursday, November 11 with a program at City Park. 

   American Legion Members, Sons of American Legion and Women’s Auxiliary will meet at the legion club at 10:30 a.m. and will march to the park and the Memorial to Cass County Veterans Killed in Action at 10:50 a.m. The program will begin at 11 a.m. with an opening prayer. A short service will include remarks and readings by Legion, Auxiliary and SAL members and will close with prayer followed by an honor guard rifle salute and taps. In the event of inclement weather the program will be held indoors at the Legion.

   Following the program, the SAL will serve lunch at the Legion Post for all veterans and their significant others.   

   In Longville, Salem Lutheran Church’s Bread Ministry Team and the Women of Salem are offering a free drive-thru brick oven bread and chili event from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. or until gone. Drive up to the front doors at Salem Lutheran Church and a member will bring you a loaf of bread and chili. This is open to all Veterans and the public.

   Join fellow community members and remember those who have fought for the freedom of the land of the free, home of the brave for Veterans’ Day.
