100 Years Ago

Nov. 10, 1921

  Emerson Smith and Sophia Bungo of Onigum were married November 9th by Rev. George Ranison of Cass Lake. 

   John Toland of Longville, one of Cass County’s leading Duroc-Jersey breeders, showed us a picture of his herd boar at the age of 18 mos., weighing 625 pounds.

   Riley Ford of Longville had the misfortune of breaking his arm last week while cranking his car.

 75 Years Ago

Nov. 8, 1946

   Bernt K. Engebretson came to Duluth in 1906 with his wife Johanna and son George. In December 1911, he homesteaded in Boy Lake township. He sold his farm to his son in 1924. Bernt was caretaker at Cabin Camp resort during the war years.

   Miss Georgia Byersdorfer and Mrs. Ted Norgard, teachers at Boy River, were supper guests at the McKeig home Thursday.

   Milford Hemmelman, George Wolford, and Carl Malmgren helped Harry McKeebe put up a new garage last Saturday.

50 Years Ago

Nov. 5, 1971

  The three Westcott families of Federal Dam have moved to Harvey, Illinois for the winter.

   Mr. and Mrs. Tom Coburn of Itasca Park were weekend guests at the Larry Sherman home.

   Jim Thomas has sold his building on main street in Remer and has been conducting a sale to liquidate his stock.

   The only score in a defensive struggle between Remer and Blackduck was a Remer TD when Brian Chatfield fell on a fumble in the Blackduck end zone for six points. Remer added the extra points on a pass from Ray Zittlow to Rod McClimek.

Nov. 5, 1996

   Harvey Ernest Countryman was born February 18, 1904 and died October 9th. He moved to Rogers Township in 1908 where he attended country schools. He married Carmen Albrecht on January 8, 1927. He drove school bus for the Boy River School District and was employed by the Soo Line Railroad.

   Macyann Neuman was born September 20, 1928. She married George Neuman on February 8, 1952. She and George moved to Longville and resided on Girl Lake in 1988. In 1995 they moved into a new townhouse there.

   Lois Isabell Felton was born May 17, 1901 to Saul and Gertrude (Allen) Whitted. She married Ralph Felton in 1921. She was preceded in death by daughters Helen Nyvall and Wanda Felton. She died October 18th.
