   Starting Monday, August 4, travelers on Highway 200, just southeast of Highway 6 near Remer, should expect delays and consider alternate routes. The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin work to replace the bridge over the Willow River.

   This $2.5 million project will continue through mid-October, delivering a new bridge to last over 60 years.

   First crews will build a temporary, narrow bypass bridge during the first two weeks of construction. In mid-August, this bypass will allow local smaller vehicles and emergency responders to cross.

   Flaggers or temporary signals will direct alternating one-way traffic, and the speed limit will reduce to 30 mph in the work zone. Drivers should prepare to stop and wait.

   Highway 200 truck and through traffic detour – The temporary bridge has restrictions for trucks more than 40 feet long or with a nine-ton axle weight.

  •  Semi-trucks must use the signed detour: take Highway 6 in Remer to Highway 2 south of Deer River, then back to Highway 200 south of Wawina (entire route 58 miles). 

   Consider these mid-point alternatives:

  •  Highway 169 from Grand Rapids to Hill City.

  •  Highway 65 from Swan River to Highway 200.

  •  Through travelers, especially those with large recreational vehicles, trailers or campers, should also use the truck detour or another route. This keeps the temporary bridge clear for local emergency responders and those living near Remer and Hill City.
