Minnesota author and public speaker Lisabeth Mackall will be meeting fans and autographing copies of her book, "27 Miles: The Tank's Journey Home," at the Crooked Lake Town Hall, in Outing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Lisa's family are residents of Outing. The Outing Volunteer Library is the sponsor of this event
Lisabeth Mackall is the wife of Savage police officer Frank Mackall. Officer Mackall was responding to a call for assistance on January 2, 2012, when his car slid on black ice and crashed into a tree. Officer Mackall was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital where he stayed for 84 days recovering from a severe brain injury.
Lisa started a Caring Bridge Journal the next day at the hospital and made entries almost daily to keep everyone updated on Frank's progress, her own feelings, and the emotional battles to keep her family together and functional during these traumatic times. The Caring Bridge journal has morphed into her book on the subject. Her Caring Bridge website had over 200,000 contacts in the first year or so.
Lisa is a trained Speech Pathologist and experienced Rehabilitation Director for numerous nursing homes. She has observed the family trauma and recovery process for TBI's (traumatic brain injuries) for a number of years. Then she got the dubious opportunity to live through the same process. She also documents the unbelievable support provided by the Savage and other Minnesota Police Departments for her injured officer husband and her family. It is a lesson for all of us.
She and Frank have made numerous presentations to Police Departments, Air rescue groups, EMT's, and firefighters The impact of any traumatic injury on the family and where to find help and support are topics most of these groups have not faced before.
Lisa will have copies of her book available and will personally sign all copies as well as be available for personal discussions. Look for her book at www.LisabethMackall.com or Amazon.com.
